Passenger movement statistics for February 2009 confirm the positive trend at Bergamo Airport, which, following January’s 4.2% increase, recorded a further percentage point of growth, compared however with the 29 days of February 2008, a leap year month: an even more significant result when considered against the overall negative trend in European passenger traffic. Despite counting one less day of activity compared with last year, in February 2009 the number of passengers on scheduled flights grew by 4.6% to 425,290 out of a total of 447,527 transiting through Orio al Serio Airport.

During the first two months of this year the total number of passengers (897,000) recorded at the Bergamo airport corresponds to an increase of 2.5% on the January-February 2008 period.

The result for this beginning of the year confirms the strategic role of Orio al Serio Airport in the air transport system, thanks to its range of routes and to the quality and value for money offered by its highly appreciated services.
A negative figure, in contrast, on the courier freight front, which, feeling the effects of the worldwide recession, fell by a comparable amount to the rest of the European air transport scene. The amount of goods transported (7,903 tons) fell by 28% in February and by 31% in the first two months of 2009 (15,067 tons), with a corresponding reduction of 28% in courier-operated flight movements.
